There is a small town in Himachal Pradesh above Recong Peo in the Kinnaur District is called, Kalpa. In religious tradition, Kalpa refers to the period of time or a time between creation and dissolution of the universe. In the Puranas, it describes Kalpa as 4.32 billion years and in Buddhism, it mentions four of Kalpas of different lengths from a period of 16 million years to about 1.28 trillion years.
Majestic, isn’t it! Yet the place is filled with wondrous view of snowcapped mountains with a mythical feel which you want to stare towards the highlands all throughout your life to find a sense of peace.
The place has an average elevation of 9,711 feet which is located 265 kilometers beyond Shimla. It is located at the base of the Kinnaur Kailash snow-capped ranges. The place has apple orchards, pine-nut forests and Himalayan Cedar. One can see the sacred Shivling rock on the Kailash mountain which changes its colour all throughout the day. During sunrise, the rock looks whitish to reddish in the midday, pale grey in the evening and turns into dark during sunset.
Major places one can visit here are:
a. Khawangi Mandir
b. A Hundred Year Old Monastery
c. Buddhist Temple
Following are the pictures from Kalpa:
There is a myth, Kalpa is considered to be the winter home of the Supreme Lord, Shiva.
I will always suggest my close associates to visit the place and the enjoy beauty of mountains all throughout the day along with small sight – seeing will be enough.
So, for tourists one can stay in the HPTDC Kinner Kailash and they have cottages. A little costly but the view from the cottages is truly Majestic.
Kinnaur has many other ultimate trekking and hiking places like Chakha. It is situated at the 15,000 feet above sea level. And the trek is of two to three hours from Kalpa. Apart from that, Kinnaur is also the way for, “Pin Bhabha Trek“. It is the famous Shepherd Trail between the lush Kinnaur Valley and the start of Pin Valley.
